CM Reviews Flood Situation in State, Urges Officials to Ensure ‘Zero Casualty’

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday took stock of the flood situation of the State and directed the officials to take necessary steps to protect every precious life.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister said, “Every life is precious. This is an integral part of our disaster management policy”.

He directed the officials to ensure zero casualty in flood in the State. There should not be large scale disruption to the normal life, he insisted.

The Chief Minister also asked the Chief Secretary and Special Relief Commissioner to review the situation regularly.

The Chief Minister said that there is a possibility of flooding in 10 districts of the Mahanadi river basin due to continuous rains. Therefore, he urged the Collectors of these districts to be cautious and take all kinds of measures to prevent the flood situation.

He also directed to evacuate the people in the risk-prone areas on priority basis and provide them with necessary relief and basic facilities.

He also directed the concerned departments at the state level to provide all kinds of assistance to the districts immediately.

The CM also emphasized that NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Service Units should be kept alert in various danger-prone areas and engage them in rescuing people where necessary.

He ordered to make provision for clean drinking water in rural areas and provide health services to the people in the affected areas.
