Bhubaneswar Tops Odisha in Crimes against Women: State Commission

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Commission for Women has identified Bhubaneswar as the city reporting the highest number of crimes against women in the state, with 298 cases registered during the 2024–25 financial year.

According to the report, a total of 2,064 cases relating to crimes against women were filed across Odisha during the fiscal year. Of these, 1,879 cases have been resolved so far.

Domestic violence emerged as the most reported offence, accounting for 852 cases. The Commission also recorded 675 cases related to dowry harassment and abandonment, and 182 instances involving violations of women’s rights. Other categories included indecent behaviour (137), dowry deaths (12), suspicious deaths (14), rape (24), and fraud or cheating (30).

After Bhubaneswar, Cuttack reported 214 cases, followed by Khordha with 210, Puri with 181, Ganjam with 120, Bhadrak with 113, and Jajpur with 103 cases.

The findings were part of the Commission’s latest annual report released at a special programme marking its 33rd foundation day.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida attended the event as chief guest. Ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Sampad Chandra Swain, along with Commission Chairperson Shovana Mohanty, were also present.
