Bhubaneswar: Opposition Biju Janata Dal has strongly criticized the BJP-led state government’s ‘ambiguous’ handling of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project, highlighting a 13-month delay since the current administration took office.
BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty noted that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared and the foundation stone laid under the previous BJD government, yet no significant progress has been made
.Mohanty cited a recent Lok Sabha statement by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, who claimed the Centre received no metro project proposal from Odisha.
He further stated that the BJD government had planned to fund the project entirely with state resources, requiring no central approval.
Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra announced that a new DPR would be prepared for central approval.
Notably, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu has informed the Lok Sabha that the Centre has not received any formal proposal from the Odisha Government for the implementation of the metro rail project.
