Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday announced former Minister Snehangini Chhuria as its candidate for the upcoming Nuapada by-election.
The announcement was made by BJD President and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, underscoring the party’s confidence in Chhuria’s experience and public service record.
“Snehangini Chhuria has done many good works for the people,” said Naveen while declaring her candidature.
A seasoned leader, Chhuria has been elected twice to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Atabira constituency. She had served as the Minister of Textiles, Handloom and Handicrafts, where she played a significant role in promoting Odisha’s handloom and handicraft sectors.
She has also served as the President of the Biju Mahila Janata Dal, actively championing women’s empowerment across the state.
Notably, the by-election was necessitated by the untimely demise of veteran BJD MLA and former Minister Rajendra Dholakia in September 2025.
