Bhubaneswar: Odisha is on high alert as Cyclone Montha approaches, with Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari holding a high-level review of the state’s preparedness on Saturday.
The cyclone is likely to affect South and Coastal Odisha on October 28 and 29, prompting authorities to mobilize resources and strengthen disaster-response measures.
Chairing the review meeting with district collectors and senior officials, Minister Pujari emphasized that both the state and district administrations are fully prepared to tackle any eventuality.
“The cyclone’s path is fluctuating, but even if it changes course, the government is completely prepared,” he assured, adding that past experiences with severe cyclones have guided the current strategy.
Among the precautionary steps discussed were the recall of fishermen from the sea, readiness of evacuation plans, and precautionary measures in landslide-prone regions. The Minister urged citizens to remain alert but calm, stressing that the cyclone’s final trajectory will become clearer by Sunday evening.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) also appealed to the public to stay vigilant and follow official advisories, while assuring that there is no cause for panic.
