Bhubaneswar: The Monsoon Session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence on September 22 and continue till October 3.
According to the provisional calendar issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the session will have nine working days, besides two no-meeting days and one holiday.
Several important issues are expected to dominate the proceedings during the session. These include the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, alleged inaccuracies in school textbooks and the severe flood situation affecting several districts of the state.
The Opposition is expected to step up its attack on the government over flood relief and rehabilitation measures, law and order, agrarian distress and issues relating to local administration. The recent flood situation is likely to receive particular attention, with Opposition members expected to seek details of relief measures and assistance provided to affected people.
The Opposition had earlier demanded a special session of the Assembly to discuss pressing issues, particularly the flood situation. However, the state government rejected the demand, maintaining that all important matters could be adequately discussed during the regular Monsoon Session.
Preparations are now underway for the Seventh Session of the current Assembly. The session is expected to witness the introduction of key legislative proposals and intense exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches on issues concerning the state.
