Odisha Police Reels under Severe Manpower Shortage: 1,784 Sub-Inspector Posts Vacant

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is staring at a major crisis in its police force with 1,784 Sub-Inspector (SI) posts lying vacant across the state, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly on Monday.

In a written reply to a question by Kendrapara MLA Ganeswar Behera, the Chief Minister said the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police tops the list with 237 vacant SI posts, followed by Rourkela with 83, Puri with 82, Mayurbhanj with 75, Angul with 70, and Sambalpur with 64, besides substantial vacancies in almost every other district.

The Chief Minister also disclosed that five posts of Inspector of Police and as many as 180 posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) are currently vacant. To bridge the gap at the DySP level, 99 Inspectors have already been promoted and their posting orders are in the final stages, he added.
