Odisha Reports 3,486 Cybercrime Cases, 727 Arrests in 16 Months

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has recorded 3,486 cybercrime cases in the past 16 months, marking a sharp surge in digital fraud and online offences.

This has been informed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday in the Assembly.

Responding to a question from MLA Rama Chandra Kadam, the Chief Minister said 727 people have been arrested, including 69 digital arrests, for their involvement in various cybercrimes during this period.

Majhi further stated that 104 cases have been charge-sheeted, and trials are underway against the accused. Victims have collectively lost ₹222,09,78,647, according to the data tabled in the House.

The government has initiated recovery measures, resulting in ₹61,36,381 being refunded or credited back to victims so far. Authorities have also frozen bank accounts worth ₹6,74,09,434 as part of ongoing investigations, he added.
