Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended Banamali Satpathy, Executive Officer of Belaguntha Notified Area Council (NAC) in Ganjam district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a staff member.
The arrest took place at Balipadar Bus Stop on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
According to the Odisha Vigilance, Satpathy demanded the bribe to facilitate the employee’s transfer, release his arrear salary, and issue his Last Pay Certificate (LPC).
The employee, unable to obtain these documents without paying, alerted the Vigilance authorities who accordingly laid a trap to catch Satpathy red-handed.
The entire bribe amount was recovered from Satpathy during the operation. Authorities are conducting searches at three locations linked to the accused to probe potential disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Berhampur Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 14/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
