Odisha Vigilance Apprehends Clerk and Peon for Bribery in Parlakhemundi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance apprehended Jagdish Pattnaik, Clerk, and Niranjan Nayak, Peon, from the office of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Parlakhemundi, earlier today.

The duo was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from a young medical doctor.

The complainant, a contractual doctor, approached the Vigilance authorities after the accused refused to release his approved appointment letter unless the bribe was paid.

Despite the competent authority’s approval, Pattnaik and Nayak allegedly harassed the doctor, insisting on the illegal payment to process his file.

Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officers laid a trap and nabbed the accused duo while they accepted the bribe amount.

The entire tainted sum of Rs. 25,000 was recovered and seized from Pattnaik and Nayak.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Pattnaik to investigate potential disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against the accused under Berhampur Vigilance PS. The investigation is ongoing.
