Puri Jagannath Temple to Open at 2 AM on New Year’s Day 2026 for Devotees

Puri: In a special arrangement to accommodate the expected surge of pilgrims welcoming the New Year, the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri will open its doors at 2 AM on January 1, 2026.

Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Arabinda Kumar Padhee, announced that the temple will allow devotees to seek blessings from Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra early in the morning.

The Pahili Bhoga ritual schedule has been finalized, with the Ratri Pahuda (night retirement ritual) concluding at 11 PM on December 31, 2025, followed by the Dwaraphita (door opening) ritual at 2 AM. This decision aims to manage the massive crowds anticipated during New Year’s Eve and Day, ensuring hassle-free darshan.

Temple authorities have implemented extensive preparations, including controlled entry through the Singhadwara (Lion Gate) and exits via other gates, as well as viewing from outside barricades on peak days to prioritize safety.
