Bhubaneswar: The World Day Against Child Labour is observed annually on June 12th. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the issue of child labor and advocating for rights of children worldwide.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO), a specialised agency of the United Nations, establishes this day in 2002 to highlight the plight of millions of children who are against in laborious work that is harmful to their physical and mental well being.
In this context, a 15-day awareness program will be organized in every district of the state from 12.06.
2025 to eliminate child labour. Under this, marches, awareness meetings, signature campaigns and rescue
work etc. will be organized.
As part of this program, an awareness program through ‘Radio on Wheel’ was inaugurated today by Chitra Arumugam, Principal Secretary, Labour and State Insurance Department.
Labour Commissioner Indramani Tripathi, all the employees of the Directorate of Labour and all the
employees of Odisha Community Radio Association were present in the program. It will travel to various urban areas under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Cuttack Municipal Corporation and Khordha
Municipality. Through this awareness program, the public will be made aware of the various provisions and
penalties under the Child and Adolescent Labour Act against child labour.
