Balasore: In a shocking incident highlighting alleged police inaction, family members of a deceased woman carried her body on a bicycle for nearly 15 kilometres to a police station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday, demanding immediate arrest of all accused involved in her death.
The incident was reported from Haripur village under Khaira police limits, where a violent clash erupted over a land boundary dispute during the construction of a house.
According to reports, 39-year-old Kamala Sethi was allegedly attacked with spades and shovels by her neighbours during the altercation. She later succumbed to her injuries, while her sister-in-law, Shankuntala Sethi, sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Family members alleged that despite three days having passed since the incident, police failed to take concrete action against all the accused persons. Protesting the delay, the grieving family placed Kamala’s body on a bicycle and marched towards Khaira police station seeking justice.
Police said the prime accused has already been arrested and efforts are underway to apprehend two others soon. Officials also stated that an ambulance service was offered to the family members, but they refused to accept it and continued their protest march.
The incident has drawn widespread attention across the state due to the family’s desperate act to demand justice.
