BJD Demands Strong Action over Gopalpur Gangrape Incident and Rising Crimes against Women

Berhampur: Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, Berhampur, expressing deep outrage over the brutal gangrape incident at Gopalpur beach and voicing serious concern over the growing insecurity faced by women in Odisha.

Condemning the heinous crime, the BJD stated that the incident has not only shocked the conscience of the people but also severely damaged the image of the state.

The party highlighted a pattern of increasing crimes against women in Gopalpur and nearby areas, describing it as indicative of a complete law and order collapse and a disturbing lack of government sensitivity.

The situation in Odisha has deteriorated to the extent that women now fear stepping out of their homes, and public spaces like beaches have become unsafe, posing a serious threat to public security and Odisha’s social fabric, the BJD said.

The BJD has urged the authorities to respond proactively and take immediate steps in the interest of public safety and justice.

The party’s demands include intensifying police patrolling at Gopalpur beach and vulnerable areas, increasing police personnel strength, ensuring fast-track court trials with immediate justice for survivors, taking swift and unbiased action without political interference, and conducting an internal review to re-establish law enforcement authority.

The party emphasizes the need for dignity and safety for women in Gopalpur and across the district, calling for visible action to restore public trust in the administration.
