Berhampur: A devastating road accident at Haladiapadar Square on the National Highway in Odisha’s Berhampur city claimed the lives of five people on Saturday afternoon, while several others were injured.
According to multiple reports, a speeding truck traveling on the wrong side of the highway collided with three motorcycles. The heavy vehicle rammed into the two-wheelers with such force that it ran over the victims, reportedly crushing their heads and killing five individuals on the spot.
Eyewitnesses described the truck approaching at high speed from the opposite direction, dragging some victims and scattering bodies across the road, leading to chaos, panic among locals, and a complete halt in traffic.
Around ten persons sustained critical injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment, where some are said to be in critical condition, as per reports.
Police and district administration officials reached the spot to manage the situation, clear the roadway, and launch an investigation.
