Odisha Vigilance Arrests Police IIC for Accepting ₹40,000 Bribe from Liquor Vendor

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance has arrested Bijay Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of CRRI Police Station in Cuttack, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.

The arrest took place at Rajmahal Chhak in Bhubaneswar, where vigilance sleuths caught Barik red-handed while receiving the tainted money.

The bribe was reportedly demanded to allow the vendor’s licensed liquor business to operate without interference.

The entire bribe amount was recovered from Barik’s possession and seized as evidence.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations associated with the accused to probe potential disproportionate assets. During a raid at his government quarters in Unit-1, Bhubaneswar, approximately ₹5 lakh in cash was recovered. Searches are ongoing, and Barik is currently under interrogation regarding the source of the recovered cash and details of the bribe demand.

A case has been registered against him at the Vigilance Cell Division Police Station as Case No. 1/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
