Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance arrested Sukma Hansdah, a woman Inspector in Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, on Thursday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.
Hansdah, who was the investigating officer in a prior case, demanded the bribe from a relative of an accused in judicial custody. The money was sought in exchange for submitting the case diary to the court, a crucial step to facilitate the accused’s bail application.
The complainant approached Vigilance authorities, prompting a trap operation. Hansdah was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.
The entire ₹20,000 was recovered from her possession and seized as evidence. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations associated with Hansdah to probe potential disproportionate assets (DA).
A case has been registered against her at Koraput Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing.
