Puri: The annual Rath Yatra took a distressing turn on Friday as more than 600 devotees were hospitalised in Puri after suffering injuries and falling ill.
According to reports, the overwhelming influx of devotees, coupled with mismanagement and prolonged delays in chariot pulling, led to widespread chaos. Many pilgrims reportedly collapsed due to exhaustion, dehydration, or were injured in the rush near the cordoned-off areas surrounding the chariots.
The delayed commencement of the chariot procession is being cited as a key contributing factor. The prolonged wait and congested conditions exacerbated health issues among the crowd.
This year’s turnout has reportedly surpassed previous records, placing an enormous strain on crowd control and medical response systems, as per reports.
