Former Lift Irrigation Engineer Sentenced to 3 Years in Jail for Bribery

Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Balasore sentenced Kumuda Chandra Pradhan, a former Assistant Engineer (Estimator) of the Lift Irrigation Division, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) on Tuesday for accepting a bribe.

Pradhan was found guilty of demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 from a contractor to process agreement papers for a work order. He was charged under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. In addition to the imprisonment, the court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.

Odisha Vigilance has decided to request the competent authority to halt Pradhan’s pension benefits following the conviction.
