Aadhaar Not Compulsory for School Admissions in Odisha: Mass Education Dept

Bhubaneswar: The School & Mass Education (S&ME) Department on Tuesday clarified that the Aadhaar Card of children is not a mandatory for taking admission in schools in Odisha.

The clarification has been given by the Department after it came to know that some schools are insisting parents to submit Aadhaar cards for admission of children in different classes.

“It is clarified that the children must be allowed to take admission in schools with or without Aadhaar card. It is also instructed that after admission, students may be facilitated for obtaining Aadhaar cards by coordinating with various offices of the district and Aadhaar is NOT a mandatory pre-requisite for admission,” said Aswathy S, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, S&ME Department mentioned in a letter to all District Education Officers (DEOs).

It is clarified that the children must be allowed to take admission in schools with or without Aadhaar card, the letter stated.
