Berhampur: Two Members of Chain-Snatching Gang Arrested

Berhampur: In a breakthrough, the Berhampur Town Police on Sunday arrested two members of chain-snatching gang and recovered 35.700 gram of gold from them.

The accused have been identified as Das Rabi (28) of Gandapalli village near Aska in Ganjam district and Sumen Pradhan (36) of Dasamania village near Jakhapura in Jajpur district.

The police also recovered some stolen items including gold chain, gold rings, molten gold, seven mobile phones and cash from the possession of the accused persons.

On the morning of February 1, P Nagalazmi (the complainant) was going to temple at Gate Bazar, Berhampur on walk to offer Puja via Military Line, Berhampur from Mitra Street, two un-identified Bajaj Pulsar Bike borne miscreants forcibly snatched away her gold chain with lockets having weight 25g causing injury to her neck.

In another incident on December 31, K Laxmi (the complainant) along with her husband were returning home after closing their bangle shop at Bhapur Bazar, two un-identified bike borne miscreants snatched away her gold chain with 2 gold setimanu, 2 gold pusti weighing 24 g near Paramjyoti Cinema, Berhampur, and escaped from the spot in high speed.

During search the police seized 2 gold pusti from spot and returned it to the complainant.

The police also seized a bike, which was stolen from Harichandanpur area in Keonjhar district last month and Rs 2,550 in cash. The bike was used in chain snatching cases of Berhampur and other places, the police said.

In course of investigation of two cases, the nearby CCTV footages were verified and clues were obtained. During investigation three police teams were formed with IIC Town, SI Bibhuti & SI Silu and through them investigation was conducted at Aska and Jajpur and the accused persons were ascertained and they are arrested by Berhampur Town Police.

During interrogation they confessed to have committed gold chain snatchings at Berhampur Town and other places of state, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.

After court procedure the Golden ornaments will be handed over to the victims, he added.
