10 Patients Killed, Several Injured as Major Fire Breaks Out at SCB Medical College Hospital

Cuttack: At least 10 patients lost their lives after a fire broke out in the ICU of the trauma care centre at Odisha’s premier SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Monday.

As per reports, the blaze started between 2:30 am and 3:00 am. While the exact cause is still under investigation, officials suspect a possible short circuit.

The fire brigade arrived promptly and managed to bring the flames under control. However, several patients on ventilator support in the ICU succumbed to suffocation.

The hospital authorities are yet to confirm the final death toll.
Other patients were immediately shifted to ICUs in different wards, though many remain in critical condition.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited SCB Medical College to assess the situation and held meetings with senior officials.

The Odisha government has announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹25 lakh for the families of each deceased.
