New Delhi: Er Ashok Basa has been nominated as a Member of the National Building Code Committee (CED 46) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the apex body responsible for revising India’s Building Code.
Notably, Er Basa is already serving as a member of the Bridge Standards and Specifications Committee (BSS) of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC), which is the highest authority in framing bridge standards in the country.
With these roles, he becomes one of the very few engineers in India to hold positions in the apex committees for both critical infrastructure domains — Buildings and Bridges.
On 25th August 2025, Er Basa participated in the NBC revision meeting at Manak Bhavan, New Delhi, alongside Er V. Suresh (Chairman, CED 46), Er Sanjay Pant (Deputy Director General, BIS), and other officials involved in updating the National Building Code.
Er Basa held top level positions in various prestigious organizations, including Executive Vice President, World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), (2022-2025);
Chair, Strategic Planning Committee, WFEO, (2022-2025); Member, Advisory Committee to President WFEO, (2019-2021); National Member, Executive Council, WFEO, (2015-2019); President, N.I.T Rourkela Alumni Association (NITRAA), (2022-2024); President, Institution of Engineers (India), 2014; Managing Director, C.E.M Engineers & Consultants (P) Ltd, (continuing from Nov 2011), Director (Technical), B. Engineers & Builders (P) Ltd (continuing from June 1984).
He was also elected as Executive Vice President, WFEO (World Federation of Engineering Organizations) for the period 2022-2025. WFEO, incepted in 1968 under the auspices of UNESCO, is having more than one hundred countries as its members. It is the largest professional body of engineers in the world.
Basa is the second Indian to be elected to the coveted position of its Executive Vice President since 1968.
Currently, he is a member of the Finance Committee & also a member of the Executive Board, WFEO.
As a member of WFEO Board, he is involved in all the decision-making processes of WFEO.
