Berhampur: Four persons, including a man from Delhi, who were held hostage for Rs 2 crore ransom in Chikiti area of Ganjam district, were rescued by the Berhampur Police.
The rescued persons have been identified as Brahmananda Patra(45) of Cuttack; Ahemad Khan(56) of Mathasahi, Tulasipur, Cuttack; Amarjit Samantasinhar(24) of village Naharakanta PS Pahala, Bhubaneswar and Rabindra Kumar(49) of Pashim Vihar Delhi.
The police also arrested accused Pruthibiraj Sahu (24) of village Bholasingi, PS K. Nuagaon, Ganjam district and others.
During the rescue operations, the police found three snakes that were used to threaten the victims.
The accused persons Pruthibiraj Sahu and others made criminal conspiracy and called Amarjit Samantasinhar, who is a complainant in the case, and his three other friends to Berhampur with pretext of finance for their project by one finance company agent namely Foreminix. Ind. Pvt. Ltd.
After being called by the accused persons, the complainant with finance agent Rabindra Kumar of Delhi and two others of Cuttack arrived at Berhampur on January 23. Soon after they arrived at Berhampur the accused persons took the complainant and others by in two vehicles and wrongfully confined them in a building and demanded Rs 2 crore as ransom and threatened that if not paid they will kill them. The accused persons assaulted complainant finance agent and two others and demanded the ransom.
After that accused persons shifted them and kept them in Kerandimal Jungle under Chikiti. They further assaulted the complainant and financial agent to pay Rs 2 crore rupees to the accused persons, they will not release them.
On January 26 morning the complainant managed to escape from the accused persons and rushed to Chikiti Tahasil Office and informed the matter to staff. Receiving information K. Nuagaon police proceeded to Tahasil Office and rescued the complainant.
Police proceeded to the confinement place and rescued the finance agent and two others. During the rescue, three snakes that were used to threaten the victims were also found. Forest department has been intimated and they are taking lawful action for possession of snakes, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M while adding that the investigation is underway in the case.
