Bhubaneswar: In a significant development ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today announced its nominees for two of the four Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha.
Party President and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik declared that senior leader Santrupt Misra and noted urologist Datteswar Hota will represent the party in the Upper House of Parliament.
Santrupt Misra, a seasoned party functionary and key strategist within the BJD’s organisational framework, has played an influential role in strengthening the party structure over the years. He will be the party’s official candidate for the assured seat, backed by the BJD’s numerical strength in the Odisha Assembly.
Dr. Datteswar Hota, widely respected for his contributions to the field of urology, marks a notable inclusion of a distinguished medical professional in parliamentary affairs. He has been fielded for the fourth seat.
Appealing for broader consensus, Naveen Patnaik urged all political parties to extend their support to Dr. Hota. “I appeal to all parties to support Dr. Hota and send him to the Rajya Sabha,” the BJD supremo said, expressing confidence in a positive outcome in the upcoming polls.
