Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday apprehended Amarendra Satapathy, Sub Inspector of Excise and in-charge of Tangi Excise Station, while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.
According to official sources, Satapathy had been demanding a monthly bribe of Rs 8,000 from the complainant to avoid initiating any legal proceedings and to allow the smooth running of the vendor’s licensed liquor business.
Facing continuous harassment, the vendor approached Vigilance authorities and filed a formal complaint.
Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Satapathy red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. The entire sum was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.
Simultaneous raids are currently underway at three different locations linked to Satapathy to investigate Disproportionate Assets (DA).
A case has been registered against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
