Odisha: CM Majhi Conducts Aerial Survey of Flood-Hit Areas

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas across five districts and reviewed ongoing rescue and relief operations.

The survey covered several flood-hit blocks in Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar.

The Chief Minister said the situation was gradually improving and expressed confidence that floodwaters would recede substantially within the next two days.

Nearly 8 lakh people have been affected, while 2.69 lakh people have been evacuated to safer locations. The state has deployed ODRAF, NDRF and Fire Service teams, besides setting up around 700 relief centres and shelter camps.

Majhi said the government has released ₹26 crore from the SDRF for rescue and relief operations. He directed officials to complete damage assessment within three days after the waters recede and provide assistance to affected farmers and families.

The Chief Minister also ordered immediate restoration of damaged roads and connectivity and stressed strict surveillance to prevent water-borne diseases. Reiterating the government’s “Zero Casualty” approach, Majhi said timely warnings, monitoring and coordinated action helped minimise loss of life.

With river levels receding, the government is now preparing for damage assessment, infrastructure restoration and post-flood rehabilitation, while relief operations continue.
