Bhubaneswar: Odisha has registered 3,398 rape cases and 1,855 murders in the last 16 months.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed about it in the state assembly on Monday while replying to a question by Rajgangpur MLA CS Raazen Ekka.
Providing details for the period from June 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025, the Chief Minister said the state recorded 1,779 cases of rape involving minors, 116 gang-rape cases, and 856 murders of women.
Among the districts, Mayurbhanj reported the highest number of gang-rape cases at 12, followed by Keonjhar with 10, while Mayurbhanj also topped the list for rape of minors with 131 cases and Keonjhar logged 115 such incidents.
The data further revealed 297 dowry-related homicides, 49 dowry-related suicides, 6,279 cases of dowry torture, and 7,173 cases of non-dowry domestic torture during the same period.
Assuring the House of proactive measures, CM Majhi stated that the government is strengthening law enforcement mechanisms, improving policing at the district level, and rolling out enhanced safety initiatives focused on protecting women and children.
