Bhubaneswar: The power tariff for the consumers in Odisha is likely increase very soon.
As per reports, the tariff may rise from April this year, if the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) accepts the proposals of the distribution companies.
The OERC will hold discussions on tariff proposals of the distribution companies from February 17 to February 27.
The companies, such as Gridco, and generators, Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), Odisha Power Transmission Company (OPTCL) are expected to attend the public hearings.
As per sources, some discoms are likely to demand for hikes in tariffs for the consumers.
If the OERC accepts the proposals, then the cost of electricity consumption will go up for the consumers in the state.
Currently, the electricity tariff is set at Rs 2.90 for up to 50 units for the domestic users in the state, the rate is Rs 4.70 for 51 to 200 units, Rs 5.70 for 200 to 400 units and Rs 6.10 per unit for more than 400 units.
Notably, the electricity tariff has not been hiked the state for three consecutive years.
