Odisha SEC Begins Preparations for 2027 Panchayat, Urban Polls; High-Level Review Meeting on July 21
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) has formally initiated preparations for the 2027 Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections by convening a high-level review meeting with all District Collectors and Magistrates on July 21, 2026.
According to a letter issued by the OSD-cum-Secretary to the State Election Commission on July 6, the meeting will be held at 11:30 AM through the OSWAN video conferencing platform under the chairmanship of the State Election Commissioner.
The review meeting will primarily focus on the progress of the door-to-door (D2D) survey being conducted for the preparation of booth-wise electoral rolls for the 2027 PRI and ULB elections. The Commission will also assess the status of pending DC Bills and Utilization Certificates (UCs) related to the 2022 Urban Local Body General Elections.
In addition, officials will review compliance with decisions taken during previous meetings and discuss follow-up actions to ensure timely completion of election-related activities.
The SEC has directed Additional District Magistrates (ULB Nodal Officers), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and other concerned officials to participate in the meeting from their respective district OSWAN centres.
The move marks the beginning of the Commission’s election preparedness exercise, with a focus on updating electoral rolls, reviewing financial compliance, and streamlining administrative arrangements well ahead of the 2027 local body elections.
